:I would hardly call it a spat, but OK. For starters, the Second Wizarding War is not a made up title. It is refered to as such in the books, and by Rowling. More to the point, there's nothing "proper" about having deliberately incorrect grammar for the sake of conveiniance. I vote for the second. :::Coming up with a list of which events are never given names will take a while. This wiki tries to present the occurrences of the HP universe as if they had actually happened. In that case think about if we were covering a real life event like a war or something. It was the observers on the sidelines and the people that reported on the occurrences that gave names to the battles of the Second World War or to the great changes and events of history. Those titles while accepted are conjectural, we would say in reference to the Battle of El Alamein, "... a battle that was fought in the desert outside of Alexandria, Egypt." Would we? --JKoch(Owl Me!) 19:45, May 31, 2010 (UTC)

:Well, as Hcoknhoj's said, there's no such thing as an "official" name for an event. The name of events are coined in reference to the occurrences (one such example is the term "The Roaring Twenties", used to refer to the 1920s). As such, a military confrontation (war, battle, whatever) doesn't have an "official" name, but a widely used name by which the event is most widely recognised. An event might even be known by several totally different names (such as the Battle of the Lys, during the First World War, which is known by four additional names and even the American Civil War, that is known by multiple other names). Ok, enough with the History lesson; my point is: naming an article about a conflict in the series is not that speculative in light of the in-universe policy. Of course, it should be avoided whenever possible, but I think it's not that a big deal. -- Seth Cooper owl post! 23:13, May 31, 2010 (UTC)

Forums: Index > The Wizengamot > Conjectural Event Titles

A recent spat between myself, User:Cubs Fan2007, and User:Jayce Carver has brought the following to light. We have basically made up titles for events throughout the Second Wizarding War which itself is a made up title. This came up, because on the page Hermione Granger in the Possessions subheading " in the Skirmish at Malfoy Manor" was being changed to "in a skirmish at Malfoy Manor." The article for Skirmish at Malfoy Manor itself has been changed from a proper noun and tagged conjectural. To clear this up, I propose two options:

 1. We leave the titles as Proper Nouns and do not have to make any changes throughout the articles.
 2. We changed all the events that do not have names in the text to Conjectural titles and have to reword nearly every character and event article in the wiki.

Let me know what you think.
