Ok, so I have no idea if any chat mods have been assigned, but I have been told by some users I've seen in chat from time to time that they like never see anyone with a star, and that if a user causes problems or is rude, it's a rather pain getting something done about it. I'm not sure how many we want, or what, we don't have a huge chat population, but I do know of one user, User:Speedysnitch who is very helpful and very active in chat, and I would like to make them chat mod if I have everyone's approval.

If Chat Mods need to be assigned, I would like to see at least one of the current administrators take on the responsibility. If not, a very experienced member of the community should be selected, one who is responsible, aware of - and follows - all current wiki rules and guidelines, and who has the trust of the entire administration. I do not like the idea of granting power to anyone who doesn't have the complete trust of the wiki's community, and who isn't voted on by the same community. User rights should not be handed out to anyone without a vote. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 12:18, September 17, 2011 (UTC)

Well administrators are automatically chat mods. The problem I've seen and which has been expressed to me by some who do frequent chat like Speedy, is that they never see anyone with a star on, and in order to report someone being offensive or rude or what not in chat, takes hours or days of trying to get a hold of an admin on talk pages. So though I realise chat is not something used by a vast majority of users here, as some do like to use it I don't think it should be ignored either. Whatever needs to be done to make sure there is someone available at various times during the day to help monitor chat, whether it be by vote or whether we vote to give all rb's chat mod status, I would just really like to see it done. I hate the idea that user's are avoiding using the chat simply because of other rude or hostile users they've encountered.--BachLynn(Send an Owl!) 15:59, September 17, 2011 (UTC)

Voting is needed. Chat Mod is a user class, and while it carries none of the power and responsibilities of SysOp, it does signify that the user is trusted enough by the community to handle the role of moderating the chat. Because of that, the user(s) needs to be selected by community vote, just like any other position within the wiki. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:35, September 20, 2011 (UTC)
