I've noticed that a lot of pages, such as Fire-Making Spell, Minerva McGonagall, Magic, Fiery offensive spell, Owl, rather than having simple, jpg or png illustrations, have animated gifs, which are entirely unnecessary, and look more unprofessional. I suggest that we switch to still images only. I'd be happy to help with finding new images from the movies to illustrate the pages in question. The only problem I've had with gifs is when they're too large. Since they won't animate if reduced below their original size, they can somewhat unnecessarily take up a lot of space. Other than that, I think that they can often be more illustrative than just a static image (particularly for spell articles). - Nick O'Demus 22:21, April 30, 2013 (UTC)
Fair enough. Is there any chance we could, say, use videos instead, as those don't load automatically. I have all the movies, and would be happy to grab the necessary clips. Cult Of Skaro Here.|Communicate here. 00:13, May 1, 2013 (UTC)
In my many months of browsing, I've always enjoyed coming across gifs on this wiki. They really do a nice job of bringing various articles to life, and I have to say it is a bit of a shame that not everybody condones them. I slightly agree with the original poster in regards to Gifs being somewhat unprofessional, but I only believe that is because they are used rarely. If we instated new standards to use Gifs more often, I think it would eradicate that issue.

Keep in mind that (in-universe) wizard photographs are essentially Gifs. Seeing Gifs on the wiki has always reminded me of that. Perhaps we could take this notion further by designing templates to be used with Gifs to resemble some of the Daily Prophet newspapers.MattKan (talk) 05:11, May 28, 2013 (UTC)
I'm fairly new here and I know this topic is more than a year old but it still seems relevant. While some of the gifs are a nice touch, they are often distracting. The one here for example, seems, to be blunt, very obnoxious. The constant flashing makes it very annoying to read the actual article. I've noticed that a lot of them are like that, extremely bright, high saturation of colors, really distracting. If they were toned down or kept to the top of the page only, the pages would look a lot better.Murkalo (talk) 19:58, September 26, 2014 (UTC)
