I'd like to thank whoever considered me as a candidate for adminship, but I don't think it's a good idea for me at present. I haven't been a part of this community for too long, and I will be going abroad for school for some time in about a month, and I doubt I'll be able to log on the wiki frequently while overseas. I am removing myself from the voting, but thanks again! [[User:Oread|Oread]] 03:43, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I think that this wiki could use another admin or two, just in case that that kind of vandalizing spree happens again. But in my opinion, we have 5 great candidates for adminship. They are: Starstuff, Matoro, Oread, Cubs Fan, and myself. If everyone else thinks more admin is a good idea, perhaps an "admin election" of some kind would work. What do you guys think? -- Freakatone Talk 19:49, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

I think an election would be good. Gryff23 20:39, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
I think so, too. I've never witnessed a vandalism attack like that before, even on Wikipedia. --Cubs Fan2007 08:28, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
I think another candidate worth considering is Mafalda Hopkirk. Of course, the outcome of an admin election would ultimately depend on the number of people who would be interested in nominating themselves, but I do think it would be beneficial to add a few more admins to the current crew. Not only would this help to prevent vandalism sprees in the future, but it would also serve to reduce the workload heaped on the 3 or 4 admins who are currently active, giving them more time to contribute to other areas of the site if they wish. -Starstuff 11:55, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay, so if we're going to do this, we should use the HPW:RFP page to nominate yourself and vote, but first, we have to decide on how many more admins we need. I was thinking around two... what do you guys think? -- Freakatone Talk 19:55, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Two sounds good to me. Although, as a precaution, it wouldn't hurt to have three. --Cubs Fan2007 21:52, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

In terms of the staffs view we think anymore than 2 more would be excessive. Remember use HPW:RFP. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 22:07, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

(edit onflict) Hey guys, as a bureaucrat (someone that can make new admins), I set a process for this at Harry Potter Wiki:Requests for permissions a while ago. That would be the place to have the elections. Remember that it shouldn't be a popularity contest and that any experience with adminning would be useful. John Reaves (talk) 22:10, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
I put up the election at HPW:RFP. -- Freakatone Talk 00:34, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

I kind of think we're jumping the gun on this one. Are we sure that everyone who's been nominated at RFP is interested in throwing their hat into the ring? Just because we think someone has all the makings of a great admin doesn't necessarily mean adminship is something they personally want to take on. It would seem kind of pointless voting for a candidate who doesn't really want to be an admin. I think we should notify all the potential candidates and see what their personal wishes are. Maybe this has already been done over IRC and I'm just seriously out of the loop. But on Wikipedia, RfAs are a hugely formal process, and I suppose I'm still accustomed to that process. -Starstuff 02:26, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

I've contacted nominees who I figured may not have been aware of our admin election. Basically, anyone in the running who has posted on this thread can be presumed aware of the election, and interested in being a nominee by the fact that they haven't voiced any objections. This would include myself, Cubs Fan, and Freakatone. -Starstuff 02:54, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

How would you like us to vote? Comment on the forum page or email someone? Mafalda Hopkirk 04:14, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

You can vote at HPW:RFP. Scroll down to the "Administrator" section. -Starstuff 05:32, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Freakatone included such a provision in his original version of the election guidelines. Perhaps this bit was overlooked when John Reaves reformatted the page and only needs to be re-added. -Starstuff 09:25, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
