I'm interested in adding pages specifically focused on recurring themes in the books, such as use of colours. Does the Harry Potter Wiki community have an objections to articles which exist solely for the purpose of highlighting thematic content in the books?
Since I am so very new the this community, I also do know how such an article is to be organized in the hierarchy of articles. Perhaps that is beyond the role of a new contributor, but I'm conscious of the need to properly file any new article.
The value of thematic-based articles is that they can be used as a guide to quickly identify characters, creatures or objects or which have related symbolic traits. The articles would not necessarily address any specifc theories on symbolism, unless a specifc quote from Ms. Rowling or a qualified source is provided.
For instance, theories about the Harry Potter series as an alchemical allegoryor literary alchemy include thematic uses of the colours black, white and red. In the case of black, the article title would need to make a clear distinction between the colour and the surname of the Black family.
Off the top of my head, the black colour theme would include Severus Snape's hair, eyes and dress and Rubeus Hagrid's eyes. I mention these two characters because there is a specific instance in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in which the eyes of Severus Snape are compared and contrasted with the similar eyes Rubeus Hagrid, right down to resembling black beetles.
Beyond the theme of colors, articles of interest could include symbolic uses of metals, gemstones, non-mythological animals (mythological animals are well documented in the wiki), etc. in the books. DZAuthor 22:28, April 30, 2012 (UTC)
- I don't really know of any such articles currently on the wiki, other than seven, and only because that is stated within the series to be a powerfully magical number. I do know that at least one such article that was copied directly from Wikipedia was deleted in the past, but I'm not really sure if any other such articles would be allowed if they were original work. I guess this is one for the admins to answer. ProfessorTofty 23:36, April 30, 2012 (UTC)
