What is an "orphaned page" - i looked at them and i dont see anything indicating how they are placed in the category. I edited one to see if it was an age thing and it didn't change its status. Mafalda Hopkirk 04:29, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned pages are pages that are not linked to by any other page. In the case of the one you edited, Agatha Chubb, it means that no other page in the wiki has a link to Agatha Chubb. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:29, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Is that a bad thing? i'm just trying to understand what to do with them, Mafalda Hopkirk 13:40, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
It's bad in the sense that there is no way to get to the page by clicking links on other pages. Random pages might give you access, or if you know what you're looking for and type it into the search box. Category links will also get you there. To strike a page from the orphaned list, simply find a relevant page that you can logically link it to. In the case of Agatha Chubb, you might be able to link to it through the Quidditch or Bludger pages. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 13:47, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Why don't they disappear when I link them from other pages? I did about five just now and they're still on the list. Mafalda Hopkirk 14:37, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Because the data is cached and updated every day. At the top of the page is the text The following data is cached, and was last updated 20:37, January 31, 2008. At some point today, the cache will refresh with new information, and those article that no longer meet the criteria with be left off the list. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 14:50, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Oh how Starbucks of me. I'll just have to wait. Mafalda Hopkirk 16:18, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

I don't think it actually is updated everyday...sometimes I've checked twice in a row and they're still there. But at the very least every couple of days. I usually clear my history first and start at the top so I can tell which articles I've already gone to (since the links change color...) Same thing with double/broken redirects and dead end pages/disambiguations. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 19:07, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
I've cut them by half! The disambig pages don't have anywhere to go i'm afraid but since they aren't really articles I think that's an exception I'm willing to concede... Mafalda Hopkirk 15:48, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Wookiepedia got around that problem by creating a page called Wookieepedia:Links to disambiguation pages. A similar page, such as "Harry Potter Wiki:Links to disambiguation pages" may work. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 20:26, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
