- — Harry Potter visiting Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour[src]
Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour was a shop that sold ice cream. Located in North Side, Diagon Alley, next to the Second-Hand Bookshop,[1] the Parlour was owned and operated by Florean Fortescue before he disappeared and was later killed in 1996.[4]
Description
The parlour was a small shop with places to sit down inside, and a small area outside with a bunch of tables and chairs. Inside, one could find lots of colourful ice-cream on display.[5]
History
On Harry Potter's first visit to Diagon Alley, Rubeus Hagrid presented him with a large ice cream (chocolate and raspberry flavoured with chopped nuts), which likely came from Fortescue's establishment.[6]
Harry bought strawberry-and-peanut-butter ice cream for himself, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger while they strolled around Diagon Alley during their visit in 1992.[7]
When Harry spent three weeks staying at the Leaky Cauldron and hanging around Diagon Alley in August of 1993, he spent a lot of time at the Parlour doing his homework. Mr Fortescue offered advice about medieval witchcraft for a report Harry was writing and served him free ice cream sundaes every half-hour.[2]
In 1996, Bill Weasley mentioned that Mr Fortescue had been "dragged off" by the looks of the ice cream parlour.[4] It was later confirmed that he had been abducted by Death Eaters, and eventually killed.[8] Florean may have known some information on the Elder Wand and the lost diadem of Rowena Ravenclaw,[9] so Voldemort captured and tortured him. The shop was boarded up after Florean's mysterious disappearance.[4]
Despite the disappearance and later death of Florean, the ice cream parlour eventually reopened under the same name but with new management by at most the late 2010s or early 2020s, employing at least one teenage attendant. During the Calamity, a Calamity Investigator working for the Statute of Secrecy Task Force visited the parlour and met the attendant, who offered to "show the magic" to anyone interested. The investigator agreed to go on the attendant's tour and learned the parlour's techniques to prevent melting, which they modified to increase the effectiveness of their Strong Exstimulo Potions.[3]
