"Muggle fireplaces aren't supposed to be connected, strictly speaking — but I've got a useful contact at the Floo Regulation Panel and he fixed it for me. I can put it right in a jiffy, though, don't worry."
Arthur Weasley mentions the Panel[src]

The Floo Regulation Panel was a committee that was possibly within or a predecessor to the Floo Network Authority in charge of connecting fireplaces to the Floo Network and maintaining those connections.[1]

The job[]

The Floo Regulation Panel controlled which fireplaces were connected to the Floo Network. It was against regulations for a Muggle fireplace to be connected to the Floo Network, although Arthur Weasley managed to have the Dursley's blocked (unbeknownst to him) front room fireplace at 4 Privet Drive connected when he, Fred and George came to pick up Harry Potter. A simple spell was all that was needed to disconnect a fireplace from the Network.[2]

Virtually all wizarding homes were connected to the Floo Network. Other connections to the Network existed at wizarding workplaces and the Ministry of Magic, although the fireplaces at Hogwarts were not usually connected

History[]

It was this panel that was responsible for the afternoon-long connection of the fireplace at 4 Privet Drive on 24 August, 1994[1] and of some fireplaces at Hogwarts on 5 January, 1997.[3]
