Ron Weasley: "Before that lecture, I thought I knew everything I wanted to about Flobberworm Mucous. And I was right."
Hermione Granger: "Well, I thought he touched on some interesting aspects."
— Discussing Severus Snape's lecture on the history of Flobberworm Mucous extraction[src]

Flobberworm Mucus, alternatively spelled Flobberworm mucous[4][6] or Flobber Mucus for short,[2] was the slimy green mucus exuded from the Flobberworm, often used to thicken potions.[3]

Description[]

A popular potion ingredient,[3] it was used in the Wiggenweld Potion,[2][4][6][5] Herbicide Potion, and the Sleeping Draught.[7] Flobberworm Mucus was sold at the Apothecary, costing one Galleon for eight bottles.[1] This mucus was also spread all over the roof beams on the Hogwarts attic.[2]

History[]

On 2 December, 1926, The New York Ghost published an article in which Healers claimed that Flobberworm mucus could boost the immunity of infants.[8]

During the 2010–2011 school year, Colby and Fischer Frey stole all of the Flobberworm mucus from the Potions Storeroom and spread it on all of the toilet seats in the sixth-floor boys' bathroom. Daniel Page later looked for some of the mucus to brew a Sleeping Draught, but was unable to locate any. After learning of the situation from one of his friends, the two of them decided to go ask Rubeus Hagrid if he could give them some mucus from his Flobberworms. After Daniel and his friend helped Hagrid collect Dittany to brew Essence of Dittany to help heal the Hippogriff Teartalon and fought off the forest troll that initially attacked her, Hagrid gave them the mucus they needed.[9]
