"Today you will encounter the plant known as Flitterbloom. It has swaying vines that neither flit nor bloom. It's best not to ask questions."
Professor Pomona Sprout introducing this plant to fourth-year Herbology students[src]

Flitterbloom was a magical plant that apparently had long, swaying tentacles.[1][3]

Description[]

Flitterbloom Seed WU

A packet of Flitterbloom seeds

It bore a superficial resemblance to the deadly plant Devil's Snare,[1][2] but was harmless, so much so that wizards and witches kept it as an indoor plant or grew it in their gardens.[2]

History[]

During the 1987–1988 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the plant was studied in fourth-year Herbology classes taught by Professor Pomona Sprout.[3]

Miriam Strout, a Healer at St Mungo's, mistook the potted cutting of Devil's Snare sent to Broderick Bode at Christmas 1995 for Flitterbloom.[1][2]

Georgina Smyth wrote in to Toots, Shoots 'n' Roots asking how she should treat a dead Flitterbloom that she had not watered in months, which she intended to use in a potion, that even after threatening with curses, it would not revive. The show's host Tilden Toots responded to her in a letter that using a combination of his Regerminating Potion and Rejuicing Potion would be sufficient in reviving the dead plant.[4]
