Flintifors was the incantation of a Transfiguration spell that could be used to transform a small creature or item into a matchbox.[1]

In the 1980s, this spell was covered in third year transfiguration classes.[2]

Professor Minerva McGonagall taught her first year Transfiguration students this spell in 1991[1].

In some languages, as Swahili, Zulu, Chichewa or Shona; the word "flinti" means flaming.

From English "flint", with the -fors suffix attached.

Behind the scenes

  • This spell acts as a reversal of sorts to the Match to needle spell mentioned in the books.
  • It was going to appear in the PC version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, but was cut from the final product for unknown reasons.
