Flamel is the surname of a European family who may be French. The only known members were Nicolas Flamel and his wife Perenelle.

It is not known whether the family were a wizarding family. One of the couple, or both, may be muggle-born. Nicolas was a very famous alchemist who created the Philosopher's Stone.

  • Nicolas Flamel (c. 1327 - between 1992 and 1996) - only known creator of the Philosopher's Stone, attended Beauxbatons Academy of Magic.[1]
  • Perenelle Flamel ( c. 1334 - between 1992 and 1996) - Nicolas' wife who also attended Beauxbatons.[1]

Behind the scenes

  • It is not known whether Nicolas and Perenelle had any children, therefore it is unknown whether they had any descendants.
  • Nicolas Flamel was a real French alchemist. (1330 - 1418)

  1. 1.0 1.1 Rowling stated on her website shortly before the publication of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince that Nicolas and Perenelle had died by the start of the book, which makes their date of deaths between 1992 when the stone was destroyed and 1996 which is when the sixth book starts.
