Finch-Fletchley is the surname of a Muggle family. They must have had some distant magical blood, however,[1] as Justin Finch-Fletchley turned out to be a Muggle-born wizard.
The family's double-barrelled name suggests that they are wealthy, as does the fact that Justin's parents planned to send him to Eton, a very prestigious English school, before he received an invitation to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1991.[2]
Known family members
- Justin Finch-Fletchley — a Muggle-born wizard who was in Harry Potter's year at Hogwarts, a Hufflepuff student, and a member of Dumbledore's Army
- Mrs. Finch-Fletchley — a Muggle; mother of Justin
Etymology
- A finch is a family of small songbirds with wide beaks. Fletchley may come from fletcher, an arrow-maker.[3]
