Wakefield's Sambata (incantation unknown) was apparently a spell that required a twelve-step dance to cast. The Quibbler published an illustrated guide on how to perform this spell in its "Spell Steps of the Week" column in 1996. It was invented by Wakefield.[1]

Etymology[]

Sambata is a Finnish verb meaning "to dance the samba."[2] The samba is a Brazilian ballroom dance.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

  • This is a reference to graphic designer Lauren Wakefield, who worked on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and the following two films.[4]
  • Given its appearance in a tabloid that often printed items of a nature that were at best dubious, it is entirely possible that this spell did not actually exist, especially when combined its unusual casting method not seen with any other spell in the series.
