A top hat is a type of hat, characterised by its broad brim and high, flat-crowned top.[5]
History[]
The British Ministry of Magic official Ruth Singer wore a top hat during the 1890–1891 school year.[2]
In 1926, Man-Hat-On Milliners for Wizards ran an advertisement in The New York Ghost noting the many hat styles they sold, including top hats.[6]
The Sorting Hat's song at the 1991 Sorting Ceremony mentioned the wearing of top hats in its lyrics.[7]
On 25 December 1991 (Christmas Day), Minerva McGonagall received a top hat from a Wizard Cracker.[4]
In the summer of 1993, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley came across a transforming rabbit, a magical breed of rabbit with the ability to transform into a silk black top hat, in the Magical Menagerie, Diagon Alley.[8]
The wizard Dedalus Diggle was known to wear a mauve top hat,[1] which he wore as a member of the Advance Guard on 5 August 1995.[3]
