Ivy (Hedera) is a genus of 12–15 species of evergreen climbing or ground-creeping woody plants in the family Araliaceae.[5] It could be used as a wand wood. Though Garrick Ollivander himself did not use it, his associate in the Hogsmeade branch was known to sell wands made from ivy.[3]

Trimming Ivy HM717h

Students trimming ivy in the Herbology Classroom

During a Herbology lesson in the 1989–1990 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Professor Pomona Sprout had her sixth-year students trim ivy growing in the Herbology Classroom to help her tidy up the place.[1] During a seventh-year lesson on the Asphodel plant in Herbology during the 1990–1991 school year, Professor Sprout tasked her students with the trimming of ivy that grew in the Herbology Classroom in order to allow sunlight to enter and allow the Asphodel to grow.[2]

The dark tunnel that led to the Boathouse at Hogwarts Castle was concealed by a curtain of ivy.[6]

In 1994, ivy spread unchecked over the surface of the Riddle House due to long general disuse, with the back door being almost completely covered.[7]

Ivy, along with mistletoe, was among the decorations in the Great Hall for the 1994 Yule Ball.[4]

Ivy covered the remains of the Potters' Cottage in 1997.[8]
