- Harry Potter: "Muggles have garden gnomes too, you know."
- Ronald Weasley: "Yeah, I've seen those things they think are gnomes, like fat little Father Christmases with fishing rods..."
- — Ronald Weasley shows disdain for Muggle garden gnomes[src]
A garden gnome, also known as a lawn gnome, is a common Muggle lawn ornament. They are typically bearded and stocky, thus bearing a slight resemblance to Father Christmas, and can be depicted performing a variety of activities, such as fishing. Ronald Weasley was familiar with Muggle garden gnomes, possibly due to his father's occupation, though he compared them disdainfully to the living magical creatures also called gnomes.[1]
There was a Transfiguration spell which could turn the magical creatures into Muggle garden gnomes. This spell was taught by Minerva McGonagall in sixth year Transfiguration classes.[2]
