Éditions Gallimard, also simply known as Gallimard, is a publisher based in France that publishes the Harry Potter series in the French language.[1]

Known personnel[]

Harry Potter in Gallimard[]

On 9 October 1998,[2] Gallimard published Harry Potter à l'école des sorciers. It was translated by Jean-François Ménard, with the cover art by Jean-Claude Götting.

In July 1999, Harry Potter et la Chambre des Secrets was published followed by Harry Potter et le Prisonnier d'Azkaban in October of the same year.

Gallimard carried on with Harry Potter et la Coupe de Feu published in November 2000. Harry Potter et l'Ordre du Phoenix was later published in December 2003, followed by Harry Potter et le Prince de sang-mêlé in October 2005 and finally Harry Potter et les Reliques de la Mort published in October 2007.

Le Quidditch à travers les âges and Les Animaux fantastiques both were published in August 2001; Les Contes de Beedle le Barde followed in December 2008.

  • Harry Potter à l'école des sorciers, literally "Harry Potter at the wizards' school", replaced the original title as it was stronger and more explicit than the literal translation for a French audience.[2]
