Ferrets are small, mustelid, four-legged mammals, domesticated forms of the European Polecat. They form a relatively large part of a Hippogriff's diet.
History
During a Ministry raid on Mortlake's house in August 1992 some extremely odd ferrets were found.
During the 1994–1995 school year, Barty Crouch Jr. (disguised as Alastor Moody) transfigured student Draco Malfoy into a white ferret and bounced him up and down, as punishment for attempting to attack fellow student Harry Potter, earning Draco the nickname of "The Amazing Bouncing Ferret". Professor McGonagall put a stop to this punishment and informed Moody that transfiguration was never an acceptable form of punishment.
During the next school year, student Hannah Abbott accidentally turned a ferret into a flock of flamingos during her Transfiguration Practical O.W.L..
Someone wrote to the Daily Prophet's Problem Page to ask if the Ministry would look the other way if he turned his brother's children into blood-sucking ferrets (the answer was 'no').
In 2017, Albus Severus Potter is seen with a ferret in a birdcage when he is about to board Hogwarts Express. The ferret's name is unknown. It may be a Jarvey.
Behind the scenes
- The ferret may be related to the Jarvey, which resembles an overgrown ferret, but has the ability to talk.
