The Fat Friar is the resident ghost of the Hufflepuff House at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He is a jolly man and very forgiving. In 1991, he appeared before Harry Potter and the other first years as they were waiting to be sorted, welcoming them warmly and saying he would be happy to find them in his house. The Fat Friar is very fair, as he is always pleading on behalf of Peeves the Poltergeist to allow him to come to the welcome feasts despite his past wrongdoings. It is unknown if the Friar ever managed to convince the other ghosts to let Peeves attend.
