Eyeballs are globular organs that detect light, and send that information to the brain via electric impulses, in order to form an image of the surrounding environment.
Eyeballs could be used as an ingredient in potion-making: there were several boxes of eyeballs at the Potions Classroom and on the shelves of potion ingredients in the Dungeons.[1]
