Expulso is a spell that causes an object to explode. The force of the explosion may depend on the intent of the caster.

Uses

Antonin Dolohov used this spell in a café on Tottenham Court Road during a skirmish with Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley in August of 1997. Dolohov cast Expulso in the direction of an invisible Harry; it struck the table Harry was standing behind, causing an explosion that slammed him into a wall with great force, sooner during the hunt for the Horcruxes Harry Potter used this spell to try and destroy the locket of Salazar Slytherin.^[1]

It is possible this may have been the spell that caused the explosion (which may have been caused by Death Eater Augustus Rookwood), which killed Fred Weasley during the Battle of Hogwarts, if the explosion manifested itself as a blast, rather than a fireball (Expulso appears to use pressure as the source of the explosion, as opposed to Confringo, which presumably uses heat as the source).

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (video game) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (video game) the effects of this spell are expanded on; if one quickly casts an uncharged Expulso it works as it does in other media, firing an explosive energy blast. However, if one charges the spell up before casting it works much like an automatic rifle, firing off many energy blasts in devastatingly rapid succession, but constant casting will make the "machine-gun" spell to aim inaccurately.
