- "'Oh no,' said Cho rather wildly as he approached. 'Expelliarmious! I mean, Expellimellius! I — oh, sorry, Marietta!' Her curly-haired friend's sleeve had caught fire; Marietta extinguished it with her own wand and glared at Harry as though it was his fault."
- — The incident[src]
Expellimellius was a nonsensical incantation uttered by Cho Chang when Harry Potter approached her during one of the Dumbledore's Army meetings, which caused her to be distracted. Instead of correctly pronouncing the incantation of the Disarming Charm, Chang accidentally set her friend Marietta Edgecombe's sleeve on fire, which Edgecombe extinguished easily, though she glared at Potter thereafter.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- This is almost certainly merely a mispronunciation of Expelliarmus; being distracted by Harry, she said "Expelliarmious" before "Expellimellius" and it is known that when a spell is mispronounced, there are adverse effects.
