The England national football team is a football club that represents the nation of England in international football matches.
In July of 1996, John Terry, the captain at the time, was suffering a knee injury, and thus could not play in a match against Estonia. The problem reoccurred later in training, leaving the team's manager Steve McClaren to consider replacing him with Sol Campbell for the group E fixture against Russia later that month. These events were covered by The Guardian.[1]
