The Elysian Fields, also called Elysium, was an Ancient Greek conception of the afterlife.[1] It was an idyllic place where mortals descended from gods, heroes, and the righteous were believed to dwell in eternal contentment, instead of going to the traditional underworld realm of the god Hades.[1]

Rosemary Ames, a famed British horticulturalist, was quoted as describing her personal garden as "[her own] Elysian Fields" on the cover of an issue of Hadrian's Wall.[2]
