During their marriage in the 1980s, Minerva McGonagall and Elphinstone Urquart lived in a small cottage, which the latter purchased after he proposed to her in the summer of 1982. The cottage was located in Hogsmeade, from where Minerva could go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry every day to teach.[1]

The couple lived here from 1982 to 1985. Minerva's nieces and nephews (children of her brothers Malcolm and Robert Jr.) were frequent visitors to their home.[1]

After Elphinstone's accidental death from a Venomous Tentacula bite, Minerva could not bear to live in the cottage alone and, after attending his funeral, packed her things and returned to her living quarters at Hogwarts Castle.[1] It is unknown if Minerva McGonagall still owns the cottage, however we can assume she does as selling it would be dishonoring her beloved husband's memory.
