An egg is a shelled container from which the offspring of several different types of an animals can hatch. It is laid by the female of the species. Eggs laid by chickens are the type most often consumed by humans. At the microscopic level, eggs also play a part in reproduction.
In 1991, the Surrey milkman delivered two dozen eggs to 4 Privet Drive. Each of the eggs contained a Hogwarts acceptance letter rolled up and hidden inside it.[1]
In 1994, the first task of the Triwizard Tournament was for each champion to claim a golden egg nestled amongst a stash of real dragon eggs and guarded by a dragon.
In July 1996, a headline in The Guardian read "IVF doctors: don't rely on frozen eggs."[2]
In 1997, during the Horcrux hunt, Hermione Granger took some eggs and bread from a farmhouse to help satisfy the hunger of herself, Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley, leaving behind Muggle money as compensation.
One popular way of enjoying eggs is fried. Hard-boiled is another popular choice.
