An eagle is a large bird of prey and member of the bird family Accipitridae. Eagles are differentiated from other birds of prey mainly by their larger size, more powerful build, and heavier head and bill. Like all birds of prey, eagles have very large powerful hooked beaks for tearing flesh from their prey, strong legs, and powerful talon claws.[1]
The eagle is the mascot of Ravenclaw House at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The body of a Hippogriff is half-eagle and half-horse.
Eagle feathers are sometimes used for quills. On Christmas in 1992, Hermione Granger presented Harry Potter with a luxury eagle-feather quill as a Christmas present.[2]
Behind the scenes
- After Severus Snape left the room following the questioning of Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley about the Flying Ford Anglia, Minerva McGonagall was said to be eyeing them like a wrathful eagle.[3]
