"Our emblem is the eagle, which soars where others cannot climb..."
Robert Hilliard discusses Ravenclaw's symbols with new Ravenclaw students.[src]

An eagle is a large bird of prey and member of the bird family Accipitridae. Eagles are differentiated from other birds of prey mainly by their larger size, more powerful build, and heavier head and bill. Like all birds of prey, eagles have very large powerful hooked beaks for tearing flesh from their prey, strong legs, and powerful talon claws.[1]

The eagle is the mascot of Ravenclaw House at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The body of a Hippogriff is half-eagle and half-horse.

Eagle feathers are sometimes used for quills. On Christmas in 1992, Hermione Granger presented Harry Potter with a luxury eagle-feather quill as a Christmas present.[2] Harry later used that quill do his homework during the summer holidays in 1993[3] and also when writing a letter to Sirius Black during the summer holidays in 1994.[4]

In May 1996, Luna Lovegood wore a hat that took the form of a lifelike eagle to the Gryffindor vs. Ravenclaw Quidditch match.[5]
