This disused classroom,[1] located on the fourth floor of Hogwarts Castle, is where the Mirror of Erised was kept from September to December 1991 and where Harry Potter saw the image of himself and his deceased relatives including his parents, James and Lily. After this it was moved under the orders of Albus Dumbledore, in the hope that Harry would not go in search of it again.
Behind the scenes
- The scenes in this room were filmed in Lacock Abbey (Lacock, Wiltshire, England).
- In the film adaption of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, we can see that this storage room is located around the Middle Courtyard, on the ground floor. Harry runs into Snape and Quirrell talking, then goes through a door and finds himself in this room.
- In the same film the room is around the Middle Courtyard, Harry enters it after exiting from the Restricted Section of the Library after escaping Argus Filch's cat, Mrs. Norris. This seems to mean that they all were on the same floor. However we could have cut from the Restricted Section in the film to the Middle Courtyard, as such we haven't seen Harry running downwards.
- In the PS1 version of Philosopher's Stone this room is on the Third Floor Corridor next to the temporary closed-off Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom. The room is called Storeroom, giving the empression that it was used as a storeroom, since the classroom that used to be there were abandoned.
- This room changed floor between the different versions in the series. It is on the fourth floor in the book (most canon source), the ground floor near the Middle Courtyard in the film and on the Third Floor Corridor in the PS1 version first game. While fourth floor is most canon (due to the book) one can presume that this is because of the ever-changing abilities of the Hogwarts Castle, with the room usually being on the fourth floor.
