Devil's Snare
From Harry Potter Wiki
- "Devil's Snare, Devil's Snare...what did Professor Sprout say? - it likes the dark and damp --"
"So light a fire!"
"Yes - of course - but there's no wood!"
"HAVE YOU GONE MAD? ARE YOU A WITCH OR NOT?"
"Oh, right!"" - —Hermione, Harry, and Ron struggle with Devil's Snare[src]
Devil's Snare is a plant with magical properties. Its power is the ability to constrict or strangle its surrounding environment. Struggling or resistance to Devil's Snare will cause the plant to exert a greater force of constriction.
- "Devil's Snare, Devil's Snare. It's deadly fun, but will sulk in the Sun."
- —Hermione Granger reciting a poem on Devil's Snare[src]
Devil's Snare is sensitive to both fire and light. It will stop its movement in the environment in front of bright light (natural and artificial) and recoils at the heat of fire. Devil's Snare does not seem common, necessarily, but certain florists or herbologists have access to it.

[edit] 1992
In 1992, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger were caught in a Devil's Snare that had been placed to soften a deadfall through a trapdoor. Hermione Granger saved them from death by strangulation by attacking the plant with a magical fire. Hermione is released by the Devil's Snare, before Harry and Ron. If you do not relax the Devil's Snare will only "kill you faster".
[edit] 1996
In 1996, Broderick Bode, an Unspeakable working for the Ministry of Magic, was a comatose patient at St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. A Death Eater sent a potted Devil's Snare to his hospital bed. Healer Miriam Strout apparently mistook it for a Flitterbloom given as a Christmas gift, and it asphyxiated Bode during the night.
[edit] 1998
In 1998, during the Battle of Hogwarts, Professor Sprout used Devil's Snare against the attacking Death Eaters.
