The Department of Magical Law Enforcement was a department of the Magical Congress of the United States of America and responsible for upholding magical laws in the United States of America. It is the largest department in the Magical Congress of the United States of America.
History
In 1926, Percival Graves was the head of this department.
Behind the scenes
- Considering how MACUSA is much stricter even than the British Ministry of Magic in matters of secrecy and the fact that the Aurors of MACUSA go after any criminal or threat to secrecy as opposed to going after only one kind of criminal, it can be assumed that unlike the British, rather than sorting out "magical accidents and catastrophes", much of that kind of work is done in the name of enforcing the law, and some of the duties that would have fallen to the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes is handled by MACUSA's Department of Magical Law Enforcement.
- For example, the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Covert Vigilance and No-Maj Obliviation is roughly the equivalent of the British Obliviator Headquarters and the Invisibility Task Force were they merged, yet is located in close proximity to the Major Investigation Department, since they share in the investigative tools used to locate magical disturbances.
