The Department for Magical Security was a department of the Magical Congress of the United States of America responsible for protecting the American wizarding community. Some of the duties involved in the department is to help conceal magic from the No-Maj community.
By 1926, Percival Graves, an Auror, was Director of Magical Security. Percival was later impersonated by Gellert Grindelwald during the time when a great breach to the Statute of Secrecy happened. The Department of Magical Security had to protect witches and wizards from and cover up the damage made by the creatures that escaped Newton Scamander's suitcase and by Credence Barebone in Obscurial form, as well as remove the memories of any No-Maj who had witnessed it.
Behind the scenes
- The Agency for the Protection of Wizarding Secrecy and the Federal Bureau of Covert Vigilance and No-Maj Obliviation are both presumably subdivisions of this department.
- While the British Ministry of Magic's Auror Office are located in their Department of Magical Law Enforcement, it is possible that the U.S. Auror Divisions are found in the Department for Magical Security, seen as how they, rather than exclusively going after dark witches and wizards, are called upon to (apparently forcefully) put an end to violations and/or breaches of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, as any threat to secrecy strictly speaking as a threat to the security of USA's wizarding citizenry.
