The demon is an apparently malevolent magical creature. Known demons are Kelpies, Kappas and Grindylows, which are classed as "water demons".

Gilderoy Lockhart was said to have "defied demons" on his travels, and Fred and George Weasley sold a product called the Demon Box, which contains a savage demon.
