Deboning (Brackium Emendo) is a Vanishment and healing spell that removes the bones one's forearms.
History of use
- The only known attempt was by Gilderoy Lockhart on Harry Potter's arm in 1992 after being hit by a tampered Bludger, in the hope of healing the bones.
Etymology
"Brackium" coming from the Latin "Bracchium", meaning forearm. "Emendo", coming from the Latin, could mean to free of faults/to correct, but also to erase or to remove (probably the latter meaning, in this case). The Danish translation of the spell is "Brækjern Emendo". A brækjern is a crowbar.
Behind the scenes
- It is unknown if this spell existed prior to its usage or if Gilderoy simply made it up on the fly. If so, this would explain its unintended effect.
