Brackium Emendo is a healing spell, it is known to repair broken arm bones. It was attempted by Gilderoy Lockhart on Harry Potter's arm in 1992 after being hit by a tampered Bludger. However it was incorrectly performed, as all his other spells he tried except for Memory Charms, thus this spell removed all the bones in his arm instead of healing them.

Etymology

"Brackium" coming from the Latin "Bracchium", meaning forearm. "Emendo" coming from the Latin: it could mean to free of faults/to correct, but also to erase or to remove. The Danish translation of the spell is "Brækjern Emendo". A brækjern is a crowbar.

Behind the scenes

  • It is unknown if this spell truly exists to heal broken bones, or if it is another one of Lockhart's on-the-spot nonsensical inventions in an attempt to make himself more famous.
  • This spell may be related to the Vanishing Spell.
