The Dark Tower was a small but high tower near the Transfiguration Courtyard, at Hogwarts Castle. This tower seems to be used as a prison. It has, at least two cells, the topmost being at the roof. The cells are not, however, charmed or otherwise protected against breaking-in from the outside. It appeared only when Sirius Black was captured and held prisoner at Hogwarts in 1994.
Behind the scenes
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, this tower is where Sirius Black is held prisoner, as opposed to Filius Flitwick's office in the West Tower.
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the Dark Tower is replaced by the Astronomy Tower.
