In the summer of 1993, Arthur Weasley won the Galleon draw, and received a prize of seven-hundred Galleons. He and his wife spent most of the gold on a month long summer holiday to Egypt to visit their son Bill, who worked there for Gringotts Wizarding Bank as a Curse-Breaker.
Upon their return to England, they had enough money left over to purchase a new wand for their youngest son Ron, whose first wand had been broken in an accident when Ron and Harry Potter flew a flying car to school the previous year. When Harry heard of the win, he thought the Weasleys deserved it, as they were very nice and very poor.[1]
