A Counter-Curse is a type of spell that removes the effects caused by Curses over its intended target. Finite or Finite Incantatem appear to be the most common and widely-effective counter-spells.
Known uses
- In 1991, Professor Snape used a counter curse to protect Harry Potter from a jinx put on Harry's broom by Professor Quirrell, who was trying to knock Harry off.
- Also in 1991, Seamus Finnigan said he knew the counter-curse to the Leg-Locker Curse, and was about to use it on Neville Longbottom, when he was interrupted by Hermione Granger.
- In 1992, Severus Snape used Vipera Evanesca against the snake conjured by Draco Malfoy's use of the spell Serpensortia.
