A Council of Magic is a governing body of the wizarding community in some countries.[1] Headed by a President,[1] a Council of Magic is, most likely, responsible for regulating and enforcing laws for the magical community, as well as keeping said community hidden from the Muggle world, as is a Ministry of Magic.

- The Argentinian Council of Magic is the first magical government in the series not to be referred to as a "Ministry of Magic".
- Unless answerable to a superior authority, It is possible that rather than having a Department of Magic, wizarding America as a whole proved to be too large to be govern by one single magical government, making it necessary to divide the resposibility between Councils of Magic to govern each country in the United State of America.
- It is unknown precisely what distinguishes a Council of Magic from a Ministry of Magic, but it would seem that the former does not answer to the Muggle cabinet, while the latter does (to some degree, at least formally).
