Sherry is an alcoholic beverage sold at the Leaky Cauldron. It is a fortified wine made in the Jerez region of Spain which gives it its name and it is often used for cooking in addition to its intoxicating properties. When the Riddles' cook arrived at The Hanged Man, there was a rush to buy her drinks. After her fourth glass of sherry, she began speaking of ill of Frank Bryce, who many at the pub suspected of the murder of the Riddle family.[1] During the 1995–1996 school year, when Professor Sybill Trelawney was on probation under Hogwarts High Inquisitor Dolores Umbridge, she was drinking plenty of sherry, as Harry Potter could smell whenever he crossed paths with her. She was using the Room of Hidden Things to hide her empty sherry bottles. Trelawney's drinking habit continued into the 1996-1997 school year as she was frustrated at having to share Divination teaching duties with Firenze, whom she referred to pejoratively as "Dobbin."
