Colovaria is the incantation of a charm used to change the colour of the target, working both on animate and on inanimate targets; the caster can decide whether it affects something entirely, or if it only changes the colour of a part of the target. The charm can also be used to change the style and colour of the caster's hair, in a similar manner to the charm Crinus Muto and to the transfiguration spell Multicorfors.
Known uses
- Harry Potter used this spell sometime between the 1991-1992 school year and the 1997-1998 school year, to change his normally black hair into a vibrant shade of orange.
Etymology
The incantation for this charm comes from the English words colour (the visual perceptual property corresponding in humans to the categories called red, blue, yellow, green and others) and vary (to make or cause changes in the characteristics or attributes of; modify or alter).
Behind the scenes
- This is probably the incantation for the Colour Change Charm, which lacks an incantation, changes the target's colour and is also a charm.
- It may be related to Crinus Muto and Multicorfors, which also enable the caster to change the colour and style of his or her hair.
