The Clock Tower Entrance[1] is one of the three main entrances of Hogwarts Castle (the other two being the Viaduct Entrance and the main Entrance Hall). It consists of a large open space at the base of the Clock Tower with two stairwells going up towards the upper levels of the Tower. Opposite the main entry there is a large window. A portrait of Damara Dodderidge was hung here [2] and, in 1995, so was a portrait of Termeritus Shanks.[1] The massive pendulum of the Clock swings over this Entrance. The Entrance can be sealed with a portcullis (which can be lowered and raised with the aid of a lever) [3] and the massive double doors can be locked with numerous bolts. [4]
Behind the scenes
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, when Harry and the DA walk in to it the pendulum is missing, whereas it is always shown in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
- The set used to film this Entrance Hall and the Clock Tower Courtyard was renovated into the Main Entrance Hall and the Entrance Courtyard in front of the Great Hall for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and subsequent films.
