The Classroom 1B [1] is where Transfiguration class is taught. The classroom is located in around the Middle Courtyard. The classroom itself is big, surrounded by high windows, has four rows of three desks, and still has enough room for several cages and bookshelves, two chalkboards, and a desk for Professor McGonagall. Several candlesticks stand lit behind McGonagall's desk.
Curriculum and Classroom Activities
The teacher is Professor Minerva McGonagall. The class often copy complex notes and notions and they often practice new Transfigurations and Untransfigurations. They've turned a match into a needle, beetles to buttons, a mouse into a snuffbox, an animal into a water goblet, a statue into a dragon, a statue into a bird, a statue into a rabbit, a book into a mouse, white rabbits into slippers, a teapot into a tortoise, a hedgehog into a pincushion, a rock into a Labrador, guinea fowl into guinea pigs, an owl into a pair of opera glasses, etc. The students also practise Switching Spells, Vanishing Spells (on vertebrates and invertebrates), and Conjuring Spells.
Behind the Scenes
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the classroom is shown to be in the south side of the Middle Courtyard. In Chamber of Secrets, the classroom remains there, but in Prisoner of Azkaban and the subquent film adaptations, it is moved to the east side of the courtyard, since the former buiding is replaced by the Dark and Astronomy Towers.
- In film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, a different set was used to portray this classroom. But in the video game adaption it resumes its layout from the the first and second film and the fifth video game.
- When Minerva McGonagall taught the students to dance in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the room used to portray the classroom was the one used to portray the hospital wing in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
