Chemistry is the science concerned with the study of the composition, structure and properties of matter, with a particular emphasis on its chemical reactions and bonds. The wizarding equivalents of chemistry were the arts of potion-making and alchemy.[1]

History

During the the 1990–1991 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Arif Sikander had a conversation with Severus Snape, about Muggle chemistry in the Potions Classroom before they were interrupted by Jacob's sibling and Nymphadora Tonks.[2]

Snape mentioned it in his introduction to Harry Potter's first class on 1 September 1991.[3] Severus Snape was known to like chemistry, and in his childhood he used to play with his chemistry set, according to Sirius Black.[4]
