"From here on in, Harry, I may be as woefully wrong as Humphrey Belcher, who believed the time was ripe for a cheese cauldron."
— Dumbledore mentioning this item[src]

The cheese cauldron was a cauldron supposedly made of cheese. The wizard Humphrey Belcher had high expectations for this conception of this product, but it proved unsuccessful; obviously, such a cauldron would defeat the purpose of being implemented as a cooking utensil, due to the edible and dairy-based material it was made from melting from the fire. Albus Dumbledore once referred to Humphrey Belcher's belief in cheese cauldrons when remarking on the possibility that some of his theories about Lord Voldemort might have been "woefully wrong" to Harry Potter.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

  • Alternatively, if Belcher's plan was for a cauldron that melted cheese, even without heat and fire, rather than one that was made of cheese, then he may have actually been referring to the Muggle dish known as fondue.
