- — Professor Flitwick's excitement at meeting Harry Potter for the first time in his class[src]
The Charms Classroom (designated Classroom 2E)[2] was where Charms classes were taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and it was located on the third floor, on the Charms corridor, near another classroom.
Description
The classroom had three rows of desks, all facing the teacher's table, behind which sat a large upholstered chair with a high back. Two blackboards flanked the teacher's table, and behind them was a small shelf with books and other objects, beneath a pair of windows.[1]
This was not the only Charms classroom. First years, additionally to being taught in this classroom, also had lessons in Class 99.[3]
Curriculum and classroom activities
The Charms Professor was Filius Flitwick.[4] The Charms classroom also happened to be where Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger learned one of their first spells, Wingardium Leviosa.[5]
This class had quite a few lessons centred around theory, but there were still many lessons focusing on the practical application of charms. These lessons allowed the students to actually learn to use the charms they were being taught. The Levitation Charm,[5] Cheering Charm,[6] Summoning Charm,[7] Banishing Charm,[8] Silencing Charm,[9] and Water-Making Spell[10] were just a few of the charms taught to students throughout this course. They were also taught to use charms to make a pineapple dance across the desk,[11] and how to create teacups with legs.[12]
Behind the scenes
- The scene in Charms Classroom in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was shot on location at Harrow School, a boarding school for boys in Harrow, London, England.
- In the PC game version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the Charms Classroom is located on the fifth floor.
- In LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, the Charms classroom includes a basement.[13]
