Chancellor of the Exchequer is the title held by the British Cabinet minister who is responsible for all economic and financial matters.
Alistair Darling was the Chancellor of the Exchequer by July 1996, and had been one of several people who tried unsuccessfully remove the portrait of Ulick Gamp from the wall in the Prime Minister's office.[1]
Behind the scenes
- A prop version of The Guardian made for the film version of Half-Blood Prince establishes that Alistair Darling was Chancellor in 1996 rather than 2007-2010, and thus the real-world Chancellors are not be the same as in the Harry Potter universe.
