The Chamber of Reception is a small building before the Entrance Hall where Professor Minerva McGonagall makes the first year students wait before the Sorting ceremony and the Welcoming Feast. The students' owls and trunks are stored here during the Welcoming Feast. In 1998 the chamber was used to store the dead bodies in the Battle of Hogwarts.

The building

• The set used to film the scenes in the first two movies were the steps outside the dining hall, at Christ Church, Oxford.
• In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, this is where Argus Filch finds Harry and Ron after they arrive in the Flying Ford Anglia.
• In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the antechamber interior is never shown, although the doors leading to it can still be seen from the Great Hall, and the building can still be seen in exterior shots.
• In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire the building was replaced by the Entrance Courtyard. However, it can still be seen briefly in the Second Task scenes. This is clearly an editing mistake.
• Although this building is replaced in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, it will appear in Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4.
• The antechamber is seen in some promotional images for the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. However, it is unlikely that this building makes an appearance in the final film, as it is last seen in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and images of the Entrance Courtyard (its replacement) have been released. The promotional images are probably taken from an earlier film. However due to Rowena Ravenclaw's idea of the ever changing Hogwarts Castle it is a possibility.
• The interior of the Viaduct Entrance seen in the Harry Potter video games appears to have been based upon the antechamber interior seen in the first two films.
• In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets , when Harry is transported into Tom Riddle's memory, Riddle speaks to Dumbledore in the Chamber of Reception.
