Celery was a plant cultivated by humans and eaten as a vegetable.[1] In Europe, it was typically eaten cooked or used as a flavouring in soups and sauces, while in North America it was often eaten raw with dipping sauces or spreads.[1]

In the summer of 1994, after the Smeltings school nurse insisted that Dudley Dursley needed to lose weight, Petunia Dursley put the whole family and her nephew, Harry Potter, on the nurse's recommended diet.[2] This diet plan called for lunches consisting of cottage cheese and grated celery.[3]

In his book Marauding with Monsters, Gilderoy Lockhart claimed that he once helped some fans in Essex rid their yard of Horklumps, and in return was offered several bottles of their home-brewed Celery and Beetroot Wine, which he declined.[4]
